Top 5 Margaritas in Allen

Margaritas, Ritas, Margs…whatever you may call them; have been a staple in our Texas happy hour for decades. Whether they are frozen on the rocks, strawberry, jalapeno or just the good traditional lime, here in Allen we have some of the best! Here are my top five and where to find them!

Uncle Julio’s

Not only does Uncle Julio have a huge selection of margaritas, over nineteen different types, but they have the freshest spicy margarita, I have ever had!  The name; El Jefe, and they limit you to two of these amazing drinks!  It is made with Exotico Reposado Tequila, Ancho Reyes-ancho chili liqueur, fresh lime juice with a salt and pepper rim, and it is hand shaken at your table.  It is not only delicious, it is beautiful too!

Village Burger Bar

If you have lived in Allen long enough you know about Village Burger bar, it is famous for great drinks that are served at even better prices!  On a Friday or Saturday night, if you are not there by 6:30, you wait in a line that goes out the door!  I would not have normally ordered a margarita here, but I am so glad that I did.  I asked Mike the owner, what I should get and he had me at Raspberry Margarita!  It was made with top notch tequila and the best tasting raspberry flavor that I have ever had.  It was not too sweet, like you typically might expect.  It was the perfect blend of deliciousness! They also have lime, mango, pomegranate, and strawberry.

Mi Cocina

Now, this is no surprise to anyone who has had their Mambo Taxi, which is; Tequila, Lime Juice, Homemade Sangria with Pinot Noir, Brandy and fruit juices that they are in my top five, but if you have not tried their Skinny Mango margarita, you are missing out! It is made with; Tequila, Sugar free Triple Sec, mango and fresh lime juice.  I was so surprised at how delicious and lite it was and still only 175 calories!  So, if you are watching your waistline, this is definitely the way to go!

Mexi-Go

Mexi-Go has been around ever since my husband and I moved here to Allen, in fact, this is its nineteenth year in business and it is still crowded every time I step in their doors.  They are known for their “fish bowl” margaritas but what you did not know is that they have a delicious Jalapeno margarita!  It is made with tequila, lime juice and triple sec and freshly sliced jalapenos!  It is a little spicy going down, but it burns so good!  They have several other types of margaritas; lime, sangria swirl and skinny but jalapeno was by far my favorite!

Wild Salsa

This restaurant has my vote for several reasons; they have the most original margarita list around and they are handmade, crafted, and almost edible drinks!  Their margarita list varies between a Top Tier Margarita, which is Ambhar reposado tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice and a port wine floater, to an Avocado margarita that has roasted pineapple, jalapeno infused tequila, agave nectar and muddled avocado!  Like, I said, you could almost eat them!  My favorite margarita was their Wild-Rita that is made the same exact way as the Avocado margarita, just without the muddled avocado!  So, if you are adventurous and ready to try something new, head on over to Wild Salsa!
