Allen's Community Theatre performs 'Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol' through Dec. 16th

Allen’s Community Theatre continues its 2018-19 season, “A Season to Die For, Murder, Mystery and Mayhem,” with the hauntingly charming Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol by Tom Mula.

"Marley was dead, to begin with…”, begins the time-honored tale of Ebenezer Scrooge. But did you ever wonder what happened to his sour and pruney old business partner? Actor and playwright Tom Mula did, and so penned this witty alternative to the immortal tale by Charles Dickens.

Chained and shackled, Jacob Marley is condemned to a hellish eternity. Surrounded by absolute darkness and piercing cold, he’s is assigned his own private guide, a devilish little sprite with a mischievous sense of humor and an agenda of his own. Desperate, Marley gets tricked into accepting a deal to earn his one chance at freedom: make Scrooge have a “complete and willing change of heart.” So begins a journey of laughter and terror, redemption and renewal, during which Marley pulls out all the stops to make Scrooge see the error of his ways. And something quite unexpected happens along the way – Marley discovers his own ability to change.

Performed using “story theatre” technique, the audience’simagination plays a vital role in creating the fictional world of Marley’s travels. His quest is filled with a multitude of characters ranging from playful and cheeky to spooky and downright bone-chilling, and all portrayed by four actors who morph right before their eyes. Harkening to days of old, sitting around a warm fire listening to epic tales of good triumphing over evil, audiences will be moved to laughter and tears. By the time theatre-goers hear the classic cheer “God bless us everyone,” everyone will feel enriched, hopeful and ready for the holidays.

Performances run November 30 to December 16, 2018. Prices range from: $22 for adults, $19 for seniors (65+) and $17 for youth (Under 18).
