Top 5 Unique Places for Live Music in Allen

Music is a universal language that is able to bring people together no matter what age, race, gender or economic background. Music creates a mood whether happy or somber that everyone can relate to. There is just something about going out and watching a band or listening to a musician that is enjoyable to almost everyone. I have written about five completely different places around Allen that you can visit and hear music, some on weeknights and some on the weekends, so go out and enjoy yourself, bring your spouse or a group of friends and let loose!

Kilarney's Live

Kilarney’s is an Irish pub that is located in the Fairview Town Center and they serve some amazing made from scratch, food and drinks. Kilarney’s is the liveliest place I have visited by far. The minute you walk in, there is a fun vibe and energy that you cannot miss. It is like walking into a big party that has just begun! The night I visited they had a band called, In Focus, they created an extremely happy and upbeat mood that had everyone dancing either on their big dance floor or in their seats! I literally could sing along to every song that was played and they did a rendition of Carless Whisper by George Michael that was incredible. Kilarney’s has fun lights and a back room with pool tables, darts and shuffle board, so if you do not feel like sitting down and eating at a table, you can play in their backroom and still hear the awesome music. They have different bands each week, so check their website for the schedule!

Allen Event Center

Allen Event Center is located in the Village of Allen and packs the house whether it is for a hockey game, home exhibit or their most popular event, a concert! They have seat tickets that you can purchase or suites that you can rent out if you have a group of friends that you want to be with or business colleagues that you want to entertain. When I went, we were in a suite and saw the Steve Miller Band. The acoustics in the Allen Event Center are great and can be heard clearly from every seat. The suite was nice to be in because you sit up higher and get a really nice view of the entire Center.  Steve Miller band was incredible and the suite was comfortable for people who wanted to stand and talk or those that wanted to sit in the seats and watch the performance. The Event Center has several concerts coming up, so be sure to go to their website and check them out!! You do not want to miss out.

Saltlight Station

Saltlight Station began as an old chicken farm, then they were a gas station and now they are a very cool and eclectic coffee shop and eatery that features locally roasted coffee beverages and modern Vietnamese cuisine! Saltlight got its name because they were reminded to be the “Salt of the Earth” and the “Light of the World.” They are located on Greenville Avenue in East Allen. Now, going to eat at Saltlight was an incredible experience in itself, but then getting to sit down and enjoy local music made it extra special. The atmosphere is relaxing, enjoyable and friendly. You can easily bring your friends or whole family and have fun. The eatery has music on Thursday nights, so be sure to look them up on the website to see who is coming in! The night I visited, Christopher Green played the guitar and sang and entertained people of all ages. Saltlight is a great date place and also a good place for high school and or college students to get a coffee and study, they have free Wi-Fi and plenty of comfortable seating!

The Lion & Crown Pub

The Lion and Crown has been one of my most favorite places since it opened its doors, it is an English style pub with a large and delicious menu. It has 38 beers on tap, large screen televisions for all of the games and an awesome patio for this fall weather. The Lion and Crown offers music on Thursday nights and some weekends too. The night my husband and I went we saw a band called Outta the Blue, they were a 6 piece band that consisted of electric guitars, keyboards, drums, a saxophonist, and a harmonica player! They played a lot of 70’s music that included rock, jazz and blues. They were AWESOME! On the nights that The Lion and Crown has music, make sure that you get there a little earlier because it is usually a packed house! Enjoy!

Allen Civic Auditorium

Now when I think of live music, my first thoughts do not go to the Civic Auditorium, but now I cannot wait to go back! The Auditorium seats nearly 300 and is located on the first floor of the library, on the northeast corner of the gallery/lobby. I honestly did not even know this place existed, or that they offer a variety of cultural programming for adults and families, including free movie nights, diverse musical performances and “meet the author" events. Most programs are free of charge too! The night I went, they had their Allen Folk Festival that featured recording artist Grant Maloy Smith, whose recent album "Dust Bowl: American Stories",  rode the Billboard charts for 11 weeks in the top 10 on the Americana/Folk Album Sales Chart! He dazzled the audience with a mixture of blue-grass, country and folk music. He was very good and everyone had a toe-tapping good time! I love that you can visit places in Allen and hear chart-topping music!
